Burford made a poor start to the defence of their Shaw Gibbs Oxfordshire Foursomes League crown when they suffered a 2½-½ defeat away to The Oxfordshire.

Donny Henderson-Sowerby and Tom Dexter earned a half in their match to prevent a Section 1 whitewash by The Oxfordshire, whose winning pairs were Andy Stubbs and George Abbott, and Mark Shimmin and Dan Knight.

Last year’s runners-up, Frilford Heath, had a tight 2-1 victory at home to Ellesborough. The decisive encounter saw Frilford's Harry Collins and Chris Little edge home by a single hole against Phil Cuthbert and Stefan Williams.

In Section 2, Hadden Hill won 2-1 at Magnolia Park, Sean Stanley and Alex Day leading the way with a 4 & 2 victory.

Witney Lakes made a flying start in Section 3, winning 3-0 at home to Shrivenham Park.

Their biggest win came from James Clark and Dave Thomson, who won 5 & 3.

Bicester had an even more convincing 3-0 clean sweep at home to Chiltern Forest, their winning pairs being a total of 15 holes up.
