STEVE Basham’s opportunist strike earned Oxford City a 1-0 victory over Bedford Town in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.
City climbed to third as a result and maintain their push for a play-off spot.
Basham fired home on 47 minutes after the ball broke loose when City’s Felipe Barcelos challenged Bedford keeper Ian Brown.
The first half saw Kynon Isaac and Adam Learoyd go close for City, while Michael Built and Aaron James shot wide for Bedford.
Bedford worked hard, but could not really trouble Jason Mooney in the City goal.
Banbury United earned a 0-0 draw at Clevedon in the Red Insure Cup final first leg.
The second half saw more action than the first, with Clevedon keeper James Miller saving from Ricky Johnson on 59 minutes.
Banbury’s Dior Angus headed Ryan Howell’s cross against the bar on 87 minutes, but they could not take a lead into the second leg on Tuesday, April 17.
