Abingdon United manager Richie Bourne may throw fit-again defender Ricky Allaway into attack as they look to end their goal drought at home to Yate Town in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West tomorrow.
They have not scored for 634 minutes. The last time they found the net was when 11-goal striker Sam Collier scored in a 1-1 draw at Paulton in January.
“It doesn’t make pretty reading in the paper,” said Bourne.
“We had a meeting with the players on Tuesday about the rut we’re in.
“Unfortuntely, we’re not in a position to bring players in, so we need a change of luck.
“I’ve played just about everyone and I told Ricky if it’s not going right against Yate, I may play him up front.
“We had three or four chances to score against Clevedon, but did not take them.
“We just have to keep the faith. Sam played for Wootton Bassett Town the other night (Collier is dual registered) and scored the winner in Tuesday’s 3-1 win against Clanfield.
“I am hoping it will help his confidence in front of goal.”
Abingdon will be without Michael Buck (tonsilitis).
Didcot Town boss Dave Mudge wants striker Denilson Vicente to keep up the good work at home to Paulton.
Vicente, 25, made his debut in Tuesday’s 3-3 draw at North Leigh after signing from Fleet.
“He did very well,” said Mudge. “He hit the woodwork and set up two of the goals, so we are looking for him to continue in a similar vein.”
Mudge added: “When we played down there they kicked us off the park and the players feel they owe Paulton a performance.
“It will give us the chance to see how far we have progressed since I took over in September.” Abingdon Utd (v Yate, home): from Foster, Smith, Carnell, Allaway, Angell, Evans, Biddle, Kingsbeer, Parfitt, Packer, Collier, Doyle, Christodoulou.
Didcot Tn (v Paulton, home): from Henly, Heapy, Pierson, Henderson, Owens, Stanley, Elkins, Halliday, Fever, Odhiambo, Davis, Halls, Hodgkins, Mudge.
