Didcot Town acquitted themselves well in their 2-1 defeat against the runaway Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West leaders Bideford, who remain the only unbeaten team at home in all three divisions of the league.
Bideford took the lead just after the break.
Didcot skipper Alex Stanley was penalised for hauling back Kevin Squire in the box and ex-Oxford United and Banbury midfielder Richard Groves made no mistake from the penalty spot.
The hosts doubled their lead on 70 minutes when Squire, who looked a yard off-side, finished past keeper Jon Henly.
Didcot deservedly got a consolation with 12 minutes remaining. Stanley’s shot was blocked and hacked clear, but the referee’s assistant flagged the ball was over the goal-line.
The visitors almost got an unlikely point, but Jamie Heapy was denied by a last-ditch tackle.
Didcot: Henly, Heapy, Pierson, Henderson, Owens, Stanley, Elkins, Halliday (Halls 74), Fever (Hodgkins 79), Odihambo (Mudge 88), Davis. Sub not used: Harris.
Attendance: 195.
