ABINGDON School won gold in the British Schools Team Fencing Championships at Brunel University.
The trio of Jack Dawson, William Johnson and Ben Schneider claimed victory in the under 16 Epee event.
The school’s two under 18 teams also performed well.
Thomas Chan, Herman Chan, Bernard Ng and Omri Faraggi came joint third, while Kit Bowen, George Eason and Ivan Nikolaev reached the quarter-finals.
Dawson, who is just 14, said of the success: “We’ve been training very hard over the past few weeks and this result was a really good team effort.”
Nick Fieldhouse, master in charge of fencing at Abingdon said: “This is a tremendous achievement.
“Our talented coaches, Herman Dupreez and Alan Knowles, have been working very hard with the boys and this result reflects the considerable effort that has been put in by all parties.”
