OXFORDSHIRE’S Frances Briscoe and Steve Naylor both achieved top-30 placings in the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships at Cofton Park, Birmingham.
White Horse Harrier Briscoe finished 23rd in the UK’s leading cross country event, clocking 29mins 17secs for the 8km course as Oxon came 18th in the ladies’ standings.
Naylor, from Woodstock, came 26th, completing the 12km course in 36.47 and helping Oxfordshire to 17th in the men’s rankings.
The result showed he had shrugged off an Achilles injury and was just four places behind his debut in 2011.
Abingdon Ambler Paul Fernandez was Oxfordshire’s second man home in 38.32, pipping Oxford City’s Darrell Bellinger, who clocked 38.34.
Oxford University student Courtney Bishop was Oxon’s second lady across the line, recording 30.24 for 54th place, followed by Woodstock Harrier Jess Webb (32.16) in 128th.
The county’s best team performance came in the under 20 women’s race where Gemma Bridge (Radley) and Melissa Hawtin (Oxford City) led Oxon to eighth place.
Bridge finished 11th in 22.01, with Hawtin 15th in 22.16.
