Abingdon United, who released striker Danny Seaward before the game, suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Wimborne - one of only two teams below them in Division 1 South & West of the Evo-Stik Southern League There was a welcome return for Leon Bird who has been out injured for six months after a car crash and dislocated shoulder, while Michael Buck came back on the field heavily bandaged following a gash above an eye.
Matt Biddle and Sam Collier shone in a good first half for Abingdon, but they could not score.
The only goal came in the 66th minute.
Abingdon keeper James Foster appeared to have a high ball covered, but Shaun Brian jumped with him and the ball hit the back of Brian’s head and went in.
The home side camped in their opponents half for the rest of the game, but failed to find the net, Collier going closest when shooting a foot wide.
