PETER Leven could make a surprise return to the Oxford United side next weekend after a shoulder injury reacted well to a period of rest, writes DAVID PRITCHARD.
There were fears the talented midfielder would miss the rest of the season with a long-standing problem which needs an operation.
But by not training, the 28-year-old former MK Dons man has made encouraging progress and may be available to face Rotherham next Saturday, along with fellow midfielder Simon Heslop., who has been suffering from a heel injury.
U’s boss Chris Wilder said: “We might have Lev and Heslop back for next week – and all of a sudden the shape and the health of the squad here looks a bit better.
“We had to take Lev out for two weeks to see and he’s responded very well.
“We couldn’t keep going because he was in so much pain.
“It’s an important week for him, but if he comes through it then fingers crossed he’ll be OK for next weekend.”
