World 1,500m silver medallist Hannah England was back in her home city of Oxford on Wednesday to start the Teddy Hall Relays.
And the Oxford City member revealed she had once come a cropper on the course, despite it being on ‘home soil’.
England, who turned 25 on Tuesday, ran in the event, which starts and finishes at Iffley Road, while she was a student at Birmingham University.
“I got lost,” said England. “I definitely would have won by a country mile, but I went the wrong way. The marshalling wasn’t so good, it wasn’t my fault!”
England, who had trained regularly on the route, added: “I should have known exactly where I was going!”
After performing her starting duties, she went for a training session in the University Parks with her fiance Luke Gunn, the UK 3,000m steeplechase champion.
