Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon is looking to cap his record-breaking season with a Cheltenham Festival winner next week.

The 36-year-old handler has already beaten his personal best for a season with 55 winners this term.

And now he is set to field a squad of six at the Festival.

Hazy Tom and Vulcanite are set to spearhead his team in the opening William Hill Supreme Novices’ Hurdle on Tuesday.

They will be followed by Universal Soldier (Diamond Jubilee National Hunt Chase, Wednesday), Grandads Horse (Coral Cup, Wednesday or Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle, Friday), West Brit (JCB Triumph Hurdle, Friday) and Magnifique Etoile (Vincent O’Brien County Hurdle, Friday).

As for his best chance, Longsdon said: “It has to be Unviersal Solider in the four-miler.

“Vulcanite would also have a great each-way chance.

“He wasn’t quite right after his run at Newbury and we’ve got all that sorted now.

“A few of mine were wrong at that time, so we gave them a quiet week.

“I’m not trying to make excuses for him, but I know he's a better horse than that.”
