An epic penalty shoot-out saw Hagbourne United pull off a shock in the North Berks Cup as the North Berks League Division 3 side knocked out top flight outfit Long Wittenham Athletic, writes Phil Annets.
The sides were locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra time, Mark Nicholl on target for the underdogs and Dan Osbourne for Athletic.
The second-round tie went to penalties, where Hagbourne eventually triumphed 11-10.
There was another shock in the North Berks Charity Shield quarter-finals where Division 2’s Ardington & Lockinge dumped out Division 1 side Benson AFC 3-2.
Johnny Eudell (2) and Jamie Clarke did the damage for Ardington, while Chris Roberts and Pete Ashman replied.
Berinsfield progressed in the War Memorial Cup with a 4-2 win against Coleshill United in the quarter-finals.
David Murphy (2), Simon Kenny and Luke Saunders scored for the visitors, with Mark Simpkins and Richard Evans replying.
Nick Guiry made three penalty saves as Didcot Casuals A triumphed 3-0 in a penalty shoot-out against Childrey United Res following a 2-2 draw after extra time in their semi-final at East Hendred.
Alex Rodwell and Daniel Tucker had netted for Casuals, with Dan Cannings and Tom Weeks replying.
Sam Naylor and Tyrone McGill scored East Hendred Res’s goals in their 2-0 win over Marcham Res at Harwell Village.
Crowmarsh Gifford ex-tended their lead in Division 1 to three points with a 4-2 win at Drayton.
Phil Hedges notched a double, while Andy Allum and Tim Holton were also on target for the visitors, with Luke Wheatley and Gareth Small replying for Drayton.
Frankie Haines and Kyle Allsworth bagged braces as Saxton Rovers moved into second with a 5-1 win at home to Childrey United.
Kevin Kogel also scored, while Mike Cannings netted for Childrey.
Faringdon Town slipped to third after Gary Sutton’s goal was cancelled out by Chris Potter in a 1-1 draw at home to Wootton & Dry Sandford.
Jake Chaffey hit a hat-trick as Didcot Casuals won 5-1 at Kintbury Rangers.
Neal Tonner and Paul Powell were also on target, with Dean O’Hagan replying.
Marcham moved top of Division 2 as strikes from Stuart Evans and Shane Northcott set up a 2-1 home win against Sutton Courtenay, for whom John Mills scored.
A stalemate between the division’s bottom clubs did neither any favours as Benson Lions drew 2-2 against Saxton Rovers Res.
Kevin Biles and Liam Wilkinson scored for Benson, while Callum Mackay and Tom Stanley netted for basement boys Saxton.
