Windrush Social Club’s unbeaten record was blitzed 7-2 by nearest rivals Star Inn – but they are still in sight of their first Premier Section title in the Greene King Oxford & District Darts Association Winter League.
Hosts Star got off to a great start with wins from Tim Tricker and Joe Palmer, before Michael Kearns beat Neil Russell to break Windrush’s duck.
Victories from Graham Manning, Sean Holly and Dave Buckingham gave Windrush a winning 5-1 lead, which they added to with a 2-1 pairs win.
In this week’s return fixture, Windrush need just a point to clinch the Premier crown.
The battle for the Section 2 title took a sharp twist when Corner House A triumphed 7-2 at home to long-time leaders Three Horseshoes.
Dillon Davies struck a superb 160 finish to give Corner House a 2-1 lead and further wins from Trevor Ballard, Mark Kennett and Richard Reveley put them 4-2 ahead.
A 3-0 whitewash in the pairs leaves Corner House three points clear of Three Horseshoes with the return fixture to come.
