Oxford Hawks men bounced back from the previous week’s defeat to thrash Purley 7-1 in South League Premier 2.

An early Purley goal from a penalty corner galvanised Hawks, who quickly levelled through Jack Biggs.

Wave after wave of attacks were launched at the Purley circle, with James Ward and Sam Chilvers on target to make it 3-1 at half-time.

After the interval, Hawks produced some of their best hockey of the season, resulting in further strikes from Biggs (2), Kieran Roche and Ward. Oxford remain in the hunt for promotion in Regional Division 1 after mixed fortunes in their weekend double header.

They fell to a shock 3-2 defeat against lowly Henley, but hit back to beat Wallingford 3-1 on Sunday.

Two Dan Smyth goals put Oxford 2-1 up at the break on Saturday, but Henley took the second-half honours with two goals, inflicting only the third defeat of the season on Oxford.

Smyth was also among the goals against Wallingford, giving his side the advantage at half-time.

Dan Bleach and Smyth again wrapped up the points, before Wallingford grabbed a consolation from a short-corner deflection.

A hat-trick from Tim Hardy proved in vain as Witney were held to a 4-4 draw by Ramgharia in Regional Division 2.

Witney looked home and dry after Ben Wells also got on the scoresheet, but a goal in the last minute earned the visitors a point and means Witney slip to fourth in the table.
