A brilliant goal by Stuart Hole ten minutes from time gave North Leigh their first win over Mangotsfield and moved them to the fringe of the Evo-Stick Southern League Division 1 South & West play-off picture on Saturday.

Victory seemed a formality when the visitors led 2-0 at half-time, but the tough hosts fought back to level before Hole’s great free-kick.

North Leigh, who extended their unbeaten run to six games, came under early pressure from Mangotsfield, with keeper Sam Warrell blocking a close-range shot from winger Kyle Tooze.

With the midfield working hard, the Millers took the upper hand.

Tom Franklin headed just over the bar, while Elliott Osborne-Ricketts shaved a post with the keeper beaten and then saw another shot scopped off the line.

However they were not to be denied and took the lead after 37 minutes, Andy Caton clipping in from close range following Brian Bowles’s corner.

Three minutes later, James Or-gan gathered and fired in a left-foot shot from ten yards to make it 2-0.

Inspired by substitute Lewis Parker in midfield, Mangotsfield pulled back a goal on the hour when Harley Purnell shot through Warrell's legs A minute later Morgan Williams missed a great chance for North Leigh to restore their two-goal lead.

The home side drew level when Tooze smashed home at the far post following a free-kick.

With both sides battling for the win, the Millers were awarded a free-kick to the left of penalty area.

Up stepped Hole (pictured), who hit a classic drive that flew into the net.

The last ten minutes saw some ugly scenes as Michael Hopkins was hacked down without punishment.

Williams missed another chance, but his side hung on.
