A spectacular goal from debutant Tommy Hayday sparked a superb recovery which earned Abingdon United an unlikely 2-2 draw in their Southern League Division 1 South & West game against Paulton Rovers at Northcourt Road on Saturday.
Paulton started strongly and opened the scoring after 14 minutes when Ashley Barnes slotted home a rebound off home keeper Simon Tricker.
Abingdon came into the contest, with Mark Simms heading over the bar from six yards.
Both teams had attacking ideas, but poor finishing in front of goal let them down.
The visitors increased their lead when they were awarded a penalty in the 67th minute for a clumsy challenge, which Dan Cleverley slotted home with ease.
Abingdon seemed to be down and out, but Hayday, coming on as a substitute crashed home a 25-yard shot.
The home side rescued a point when gained when Ryan Curtin slotted home from 12 yards in the 86th minute.
