Alfie Potter is determined to get on the goal trail in the second half of Oxford United’s season.

The winger has made 18 starts and four substitute appearances this term, but has managed just one goal.

And Potter says that he wants to set the record straight in 2012 – starting with today’s npower League Two trip to Aldershot.

“We have got some goalscorers in our squad, but it’s down to me to start getting some more goals myself,” he said.

“I am not getting the chances I was before I got injured, so I need to get into the positions again and start taking chances.

“I’m not going to set myself a target, but yes, I need to score more.”

Potter was in top form in the early part of the season – minus goals – but picked up an injury in the defeat at Southend in November and has only just returned to full fitness.

“It does take a few games to get your fitness back,” he said.

“But I feel that I am there now. The sharpness is getting back and hopefully I can really push on.”

Potter should again take his place on the right side of United’s three-pronged front line, with boss Chris Wilder having to decide whether Jon-Paul Pittman will start on the left.

Tom Craddock did well in his first two games back from injury, but struggled in the draws at Torquay and against Crawley and may need a rest.

Wilder must also decide whether to keep Andy Whing as the holding midfield player, and if he does that, will choose between Simon Heslop and Asa Hall in front of him.

Deane Smalley, who scored in United’s 2-1 win over Aldershot at the Recreation Ground in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in October, has recovered from his injury picked up at Torquay and is likely to be on the bench.

Shots new boys Sonny Bradley and Troy Brown, both defenders, will be vying for a place in the starting 11 following their loan moves from Hull City and Rotherham United respectively.

Jamie Collins is available again after serving a ban, while Aaron Morris, Danny Hylton, Aaron Brown and Michael Rankine face fitness tests.
