Even though it was against the league leaders, Oxford United skipper Jake Wright says that nobody was happy with just taking a point on Monday.

Tyrone Barnett’s last-minute equaliser left a downcast U’s changing room after the final whistle.

And Wright, who was again outstanding in a strong defensive display from United, says that it comes as little consolation that it was the table-toppers.

“It was two points lost,” he said.

“At home we should be beating teams. We have players fit now, and although Crawley are top and will go to a lot of places and win, but we’re disappointed.

“We were very poor at their place and on Monday we showed them what we are all about.”

United’s captain said that had this game come six weeks earlier during their November blip, it may have been a different outlook.

“I think in November we’d have taken a draw in a game like this – to be fair we’d have taken a draw against anyone,” he said.

“But having put that right of late, we’re disappointed.

“We badly wanted five clean sheets in a row and we’re gutted about that.

“The players are down, but I thought we defended brilliantly and deserved the clean sheet.

“If we had just managed to hold on we’d have been in the play-offs.

“But it’s gone now so we will go to Aldershot and look to put things right there.”
