Banbury United striker Andy Baird could make a stunning return to the side for tomorrow's FA Cup second qualifying round trip to Ryman Premier League side Tonbridge Angels.
It was thought that the pacy former Wycombe forward would be out for up to three weeks after suffering a bad ankle injury against Leamington in the Birmingham Senior Cup.
But he could be set for a sensational comeback if he comes through a fitness test.
Should Baird be fit he would link up with ex-Wycombe teammate Jermaine McSporran, who signed last Friday from Hellenic League outfit Kidlington.
"Bairdy has an outside chance of playing," said manager Kevin Brock.
"He did a bit of training on Tuesday on his own. If he makes it, that would be a big bonus for us."
Defender Ady Fuller is back after missing the trip to south Wales to attend a wedding.
Brock is delighted with the capture of McSporran who played for him when he was Oxford City boss.
He said: "He was a bit off the pace at Merthyr last week, but once he is match fit, he will be a valuable asset.
"He has pace, which is very useful at our level."
Brock added Tonbridge would be tough: "They are at the same level as us. We'll be going down there to win, but if we can get them back to ours that would be a good result."
Didcot Town defender Dave Green could be out of action for six weeks after aggravating a back problem. He lasted only eight minutes of Tuesday's Errea Cup win against Brackley.
Manager Stuart Peace said: "It is a big blow. He's had a problem all season. It's very frustrating for us and him. "We'll let the injury settle down before having another look."
Green is the only absentee for their trip to Heybridge Swifts.
Oxford City are sweating on the fitness of goalkeeper Carl Wilkins ahead of their trip to Bishop's Cleeve.
Wilkins was forced to miss Tuesday night's 2-0 Errea Cup win at Abingdon United. Lee Farrow is on stand-by.
Anthony Alleyne and Lewis Craker should shake off minor injuries.
Matty Glynn faces a late fitness test on a foot injury.
