WALLINGFORD maintained their 100 per cent record with a 31-26 victory at Oxford.
But they were almost sunk by their hosts' late comeback.
And Wallingford's victory was not without its cost as full back Johnny Collett could be sidelined for six weeks after dislocating a collarbone.
Oxford took the lead with a try from Luke Wilkins, converted by Duncan Lynchsmith after a mix-up between Collet and winger Nick Risk.
Wallingford struck back almost immediately when captain Oli Henderson ghosted over and converted following a tapped penalty.
The next 20 minutes saw both sides make an awful lot of handling errors and the game wasn't allowed to flow by some over zealous refereeing.
Risk made amends for his earlier error by scoring under the posts for Henderson to convert.
Wallingford centre Henry Pooler dived over just before the break.
Collet's injury came as Oxford attack with renewed vigour, but they couldn't score and lost two players to the sin bin.
Instead Wallingford went 24-7 up when hooker Tom Hill was driven over.
Risk gave Oxford hope when his fumble allowed Martin O'Callaghan to score a try that was converted by Lynchsmith.
Wallingford thought they had the game won when Henderson converted a scrambled try from scrum half Derek Viljoen.
In the final period Oxford stepped up the pace and scored two good tries, through O'Callaghan and Dean Muir.
The last move of the match saw Oxford denied victory when a try-scoring pass was deemed to have been forward.
Gosford All Blacks struggled to an 8-8 draw at home to Broadmoor Staff in a frustating game marred by some inept refereeing.
Broadmoor started brightly with a rolling maul, which led to centre Gareth Lewis crashing his way over in the third minute.
Gosford levelled when prop Lee Donnelly was driven over after a searing run from winger Marc Grant.
They failed to make the most of some good chances, but a penalty apiece from Ross Yates and Gosford's Tim Sutton made it 8-8.
Flanker Dan Hughes stood out in a mediocre second half for Gosford, who saw Alex Webb's try strangely disallowed and Charlie Sutton miss an easy penalty.
A second half rally could not save Abingdon from losing 27-12 at home to Drifters.
Drifters scored a penalty followed shortly by a good push over try.
On 30 minutes, Drifters' fly half put a chip over the top, which led to a converted try.
Full back Steve Pearce and hooker Jamie Gosling scored second half tries. Ian Thompson added a conversion.
