A thunderbolt from Declan Benjamin gave Oxford City a 1-0 victory over Abingdon United in the Evo-Stik Southern League’s Red Insure Cup first round on Tuesday night.

After an even first half, Benjamin scored the only goal with a cracking drive from 30 yards.

United’s best chance came in the closing stages when Sam Collier blazed over the bar.

Two goals from John Mills earned North Leigh a place in round two after winning 2-1 at Aylesbury United.

His first came on four minutes from a corner, and Mills put his side further ahead from 15 yards after 21 minutes.

North Leigh’s Sam Warrell was forced to go off injured before half-time and with no substitute keeper on the bench, Stuart Hole took over.

Aylesbury pulled a goal back through Jack Welch after 59 minutes, but the visitors held on.

Banbury United made short work of Bedworth United, running out 4-0 winners at Spencer Stadium.

A Josh Cole shot from 25 yards put them ahead and Aaron Woodley made it 2-0 with a header.

Woodley cashed in on a defensive error to notch Banbury’s third after 64 minutes, and another mistake allowed Glenn Walker to make it four.

Liam Dolman came off the bench for his first game in six weeks after injury.
