RYAN Clarke says he is in the form of his life at present – but vows he will get even better.

The Oxford United goalkeeper has played a big part in the club’s recent good run of form which has seen them climb to third in the npower League Two table.

And the former Bristol Rovers man, without wanting to jinx himself, is determined that he maintains his high standards all season.

When asked whether he felt he was playing better than ever at present, United’s No 1 replied: “I think I am to be honest – but I hope that I haven’t gone and put the kiss of death on it now!

“I am very happy with my form though at the moment. I felt that I did OK last season, but wanted to kick on this season and think we are doing that.

“The boys in front of me have been fantastic and it’s nice that it is all coming together. But we’re only 13 games into the season so we have to make sure we are consistent for the whole campaign.”

The 29-year-old, pictured left, added: “I am getting better with age. But I feel like I can get better again as well.

“I look back to when I was 23 or 24 and the mistakes I made, but I feel that I have got that bit of consistency to my game.

“It’s not about the amount of good saves you’re making as a goalkeeper, but about the amount of mistakes you’re making and I am hopefully keeping those to a minimum.

“It’s just all about taking each game 45 minutes at a time.”

Clarke and the rest of the United defence are the meanest in the league, something the keeper puts down to a number of factors.

“The best defence so far this season is something to be proud of, but we want that at the end of the season as well,” he said.

“I think that bit of experience with Dubes (Michael Duberry) in there is important, but if any of us are not doing our jobs, we all have a moan about it – which is a good thing.”
