Jake Wright says that he is determined to keep going higher and higher with Oxford United after agreeing his new deal.

“I am really happy to get it signed,” he said. “I have been speaking to the chairman and manager for a while now.

“It’s not that I was worried about anything, because the gaffer has always been honest with me, but I have got that security now and can concentrate firmly on my football and helping Oxford get better and better.

“It’s good that the club wanted me to be here, but they knew that I wanted to be here as well.”

He went on: “I think that everything about here is is a Championship club.

“I was looking at the average crowds in League One and I think we would be fifth in that at the moment with our crowd.

“And obviously if we did get promoted we would get more fans coming along anyway so we know it’s a big club here.”

Wright says that the club is a good place to be at the moment, and the players are determined to keep it that way.

“The table looks really good at the moment, but it’s only mid-October,” he added.

“We need to make sure it is still looking good at Christmas, and then hopefully it will still be looking good at the end of the season.”
