Kennington are county champions after beating Horse & Harrow 3-2 in the final, writes PETE EWINS.

Steven Sheard put Kennington in front with a win over Pete Welch 8,280-2,710, but Dennis Atkins levelled after a 5,450-3,510 victory against Pauline Withey.

Kevin Godfrey made a break of 7,780 to put Kennington 2-1 ahead with a 8,610-2,480 success over Butch Lawson.

And Mark Trafford made the match safe with a 6,000-2,160 win over Pete Burton.

The final leg saw Horse & Harrow’s Pete Lee defeat Ian Gordon 6,920-2,770, but the damage had already been done.

Kennington will now represent Oxon in the national finals at Reading this Sunday.

In league competitions, Trafford was in fine form in the Premier Section Individual event.

Trafford scored 18,520 to knock out defending champion Sheard 2-0.

Also through is Jenny Florey, who beat Alan Lacey 11,800-11,470 on aggregate.

In the Section 1 competition, John Patey and Simon Ellam defeated Terry Green and Richard Garrett respectively.

Chris Bateman saw off Martyn Wood 3,640-3,150 in the Pat Webber Cup, with Geoff Mace beating Phil Clark 10,590-7,550.

In the Never Won Cup, Craig Mace beat Mellissa Standbridge 2-0 to go through to the next round.
