Oxford City boss Mike Ford has urged his team to go out and do it again after they were handed a trip to Weston-super-Mare in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.

It followed their shock 3-1 win at Weston’s Blue Square Bet South rivals Eastleigh at the weekend.

Victory at eighth-placed Weston Saturday, October 29, would see City make the first round for the second time in three seasons and add £12,500 to the coffers.

In 2009, Ford was in charge when his Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division side lost 3-2 after a brave display at League Two Burton Albion.

And he hopes his side can reach the same stage this time around.

“It could have been a lot worse – we could have got Luton away and that would have been really difficult,” said Ford.

“Weston will be thinking they have got a really good draw – they’re going well in their league and they are at home to a club from lower down the pyramid.

“That was what I was after, but for us it’s a challenge we can meet.

“I have been there before and it’s a tidy set-up. But it’s definitely winnable for us.

“We will be respectful, but we’re playing a team from the same level as Saturday.”

Ford added that the money generated by the Cup run was proving very useful.

He said: “I think we have earned £15,000 so far, which if you add to it bar takings adds up to £17,000 or £18,000. So it’s a big boost for the football club.”

Ford added: “The game is probably a nice distraction from the league. We can go there and enjoy it.

“We took a coachload of supporters to Eastleigh and we haven’t done that in a long time.

“Perhaps we could take two coaches to Weston and make it a really enjoyable day for the supporters.”

Ford added: “Darren Pond, Lee Steele, James Clarke and Andy Ballard all played in the the Burton game. So they know what it’s like and hopefully they want to get that feeling again.”

Meanwhile, North Leigh will be looking to make it two wins in a row when they host Clevedon in Division 1 South & West.
