Henley Hawks could not pull off another last gasp win as they lost 10-9 to Worthing Raiders in National 2 South at Dry Leas.
Defeat ended Henley’s 100 per cent start to the campaign, while Worthing, who had three players sin-binned, maintained theirs by the narrowest of margins.
Hawks full back James Comben missed a tricky penalty and a late drop goal to win it.
Worthing had No 8 Rob Smith yellow-carded on seven minutes for a short-arm tackle, but his side took the lead with a penalty from full back Matt McLean.
Worthing went 10-0 up after flanker James Redmayne ran in a try, McLean converting.
Comben got Henley back in the game with a two penalties, either side of a yellow card for Worthing centre Darren Clayton.
After half-time, Comben made it 10-9 with a penalty.
A break from Henley’s Danny Wells ended in him being penalised for crossing, while fellow centre Ali James made a searing run.
Worthing had replacement Michael Stubbs sin-binned before Comben missed a 45-metre penalty then the drop-goal attempt.
