TADMARTON Heath boosted their survival hopes in Section 1 of the Shaw Gibbs Oxfordshire Foursomes League with a 2½-½ victory over basement boys Studley Wood.
All the matches were tight affairs, with Spencer Hall and James Burton pipping Studley’s Lee White and Andy Sutton by one hole in the opener.
Tadmarton’s Ian Manning and Chris Lowe saw off John McClure and Nigel Lawton 2&1, while Guy Sambrook and Owen King halved with Studley’s Joe Fathers and Nick Mortimer.
Hadden Hill went second in Division 3 after beating North Oxford 2-1.
Gary Hamilton and Mark Grootz opened up with a 3&2 victory over North Oxford’s Marc Andrews and Darren Boulton.
Dave Titcombe and Simon Kendall levelled by defeating Hadden’s Mark Harvey and Dylan Polley 4&3.
But Rob Perry and Lee Challis sealed the spoils by seeing off Steve Millar and John Nicholson 2&1.
l OXON pair Barry James and Trevor Harrhy helped Wales to a runner-up spot in the Four Nations Golf Challenge.
James (Drayton Park) and Harrhy (Frilford Heath) were in the Wales side that were pipped 4-3 by Ireland in the grand final at The Oxfordshire.
But they also played the decisive role in getting their country to the final.
With both semi-finals finishing 3-3, sudden death was required – and James and Harrhy were chosen as Wales’s pair.
They eventually edged out England’s Sean Lapper and Stephen King (Cherwell Edge) on the third time they played the 415-yard 18th hole.
