Wayne Brown is set to make his first appearance for Oxford United tonight.
The second-choice goalkeeper will come in for Ryan Clarke as U’s boss Chris Wilder takes the opportunity to rest three key players for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Southern Section second-round clash at Aldershot.
Clarke will be given a night off, as will central defender Michael Duberry and central midfielder Paul McLaren.
But Wilder says that despite the negative publicity the competition sometimes draws, he is treating the tie seriously.
“We want to win every time we play,” he said.
“It is a chance to maybe rest a couple of players, but we are going to Aldershot looking to win and keep our good form going.
“We are certainly taking the game seriously and want to go as far as we can in the competition.”
Duberry admitted after Saturday’s 1-0 win at Hereford that while he wants to play every week, sitting this tie out may not be a bad idea.
“I love playing football and want to be involved in every game,” he said.
“But you know it’s a long season and maybe a rest might do me good.”
Wilder must field six players who started the Hereford match, but bearing in mind United’s injury list, he would have had to do that anyway!
As well as Brown, four substitutes from Saturday – Asa Hall, Deane Smalley, Andy Whing and Josh Payne – may get their chance to impress.
Aldershot boss Dean Holdsworth is also expected to shuffle his pack, with Bradley Bubb, Anthony Pulis, Jamie Young and Jordan Brown all in with a chance of starting.
If tonight's game is level after 90 minutes it goes straight to a penalty shoot-out, with no extra time.
