South West 1 East
A LATE penalty saw Witney pegged back to draw 21-21 at home to Swanage & Wareham.
Wing Jonnie Blackmore landed the kick to seal a share of the spoils, which followed last season’s 20-20 effort at Hailey Road.
Witney gave away too many penalties and trailed 12-0 as replacement prop Nick Audley and Blackmore scored tries, while Charlie Rowberry converted the latter.
Witney full back Henry Lamb had missed a couple of penalties, but they replied with a try from scrum half Gareth Campbell.
Fly half Tom Harper took over Witney’s kicking duties to slot a penalty, but Rowberry landed a three-pointer before the break.
Harper kicked a second penalty, then Lamb finished a fine move.
A Rowberry penalty restored Swanage’s lead before Witney prop Jamie Burke and a visiting player were sin-binned.
Harper made it 21-18 with a try, but a desperate late infringement saw Witney prop Alan Richens yellow-carded and Blackmore kick the points.
