One of speedway's nice guys, Sam Ermolenko has called it a day - 23 years after making his British debut.
The American, at the forefront for both mainly Wolverhampton and America, suffered badly from injuries early in his career, but bounced back to be one of the most consistent riders in the world.
The 1993 world champion will stage a farewell meeting at his former club Wolverhampton next March after a glittering career.
He said: "It's going to be a big occasion.
"Everyone knows I don't do things by half, I always try and do things properly and I want to ensure everyone has a great time."
