Ardley Utd 1, Holyport 5
ARDLEY United pressed the self-destruct button as they crashed to defeat in their Premier Division clash with Holyport.
The home side led 1-0 until the 70th minute, but, after the sending off of Carl Standen and losing keeper Joe White to an injury, shipped five goals in 12 minutes.
Ardley began strongly, winning five corners in as many minutes.
Nick Thorne nearly opened the scoring, but his shot was saved by Holyport keeper Warren Carter.
But the deadlock was broken in the 22nd minute, Ben Thomas placing his header wide of the keeper from another corner.
In the second half, White suffered a blow to the head in a collision with two of his own defenders.
As he lost his grip on the ball, Holyport’s Callum Coull fired at goal and left-back Standen palmed the shot away, thinking the game had been stopped.
Referee Neil Morrison thought differently, dismissing Standen and awarding Holyport a penalty.
White saved the resulting penalty, but was unable to continue.
With no recognised keeper on the bench, Alex Feaver took on the No 1 shirt.
But in the next 12 minutes, Holyport scored at will, courtesy of Coull (2), Jamie Handscomb (2) and Lewis Driver as ten-man Ardley offered no protection to the stand-in keeper.
