Reading’s Carl Bunce retained his QRA Quad Oval British Championship at Oxford Stadium last night, writes ROBERT PEASLEY.
Bunce led by one point from Danny Smith, another Reading rider, going into the final round.
The key race came in heat 18. Bunce made the trap, only for Kidderminster’s Lee Hazlewood to cut inside him on the second bend. Bunce had to settle for second place, but Smith was stranded in fourth behind Shaun Roberts.
Hazlewood scored a 15-point maximum in the heats to claim third place overall.
Bunce completed a great night by also winning the final, while Hazelwood passed Smith to take second.
Meanwhile, Dan Berwick took a firm grip in the Dirt Track Solos by winning the penultimate round.
Berwick passed nearest challenger Ben Millichap with a lap remaining in the final.
In the support classes, there was local interest with Cowley’s Luke Coker coming third in the Dirt Motocross challenge event, where Ben Baker reigned supreme.
