OXFORD University’s Siberian tour has seen two players suffer broken legs and a third damage a lung.
Centres Gavin Turner and Marcus-Alexander Neil both broke bones in their legs on the hard surface during a sevens tournament in Achinsk where the Dark Blues were runners-up.
Flanker Chris Coe left the tour early after suffering lung damage in Oxford’s 22-20 defeat to Federal Siberian University in Krasnoyarak.
Oxford then opened up the sevens tournament with a 33-7 victory over RC Enisei STM, with tries from James Dargan (2), Neil, Scott Fernquest and Matt Janney, who also converted four.
Steady progress followed before a 32-12 final defeat to RC Siberia, with tries from Fernquest and Jones and a Janney conversion.
The Dark Blues lost to professional side RC Krasnyi Yar 29-17 yesterday in their final tour match.
Cassian Bramham Law and Sam Egerton scored Oxford’s tries, with Harry Guinness converting both and adding a penalty.
General manager Tim Stevens said: “It was a much improved performance.
“We were also pleased to report no major injuries.”

The West Oxfordshire club have held the mini and junior seal of approval for several years, but this RFU award means they have met exacting standards at all age groups.
