Cita Haines scored twice as Oxford Hawks Ladies got their Conference East campaign off to a flying start by seeing off Horsham 3-0.
The visitors’ defence was met with a torrent of attacks in the first half, but Hawks could not find a breakthrough.
However, a goal from Becky Odlin soon after the interval allowed the team to settle, Haines converting a cross to make it 2-0.
Superior fitness in the fourth quarter saw Hawks wrap up victory as Zoe Salter and Anna French set up Haines for No 3.
The new Oxford HC ladies’ section, formed following the merger between City of Oxford and Rover Oxford in the summer, had a successful baptism.
Six of the seven sides were in action, the first team missing out when Oxford University postponed their fixture.
Oxford 2nd drew 3-3 at Marlow in South League Division 3A, going 2-0 up before the break thanks to Sara Morgan and Sophie Shilston.
Fine defending from Becky Sammon and Sophie Carter kept Marlow at bay for a time, but they eventually scored twice to level before Lyn Cockshott restored Oxford’s lead.
Marlow grabbed a share of the spoils from a penalty corner.
Witney made a winning start to their Division 3A season with a 2-1 win at Eastcote.
Katie Gatt’s strike from a penalty corner was deflected in to put Witney ahead.
Eastcote equalised, but a great individual goal from Joy Mangazi restored Witney’s lead at half-time.
Witney had a penalty flick saved in the second half.
Newcomer Ella Weston impressed for Bicester with a first-half hat-trick in their 5-1 Trysports 3-Counties League Premier 2 win over Oxford Hawks 3rd. Amy Richardson and Su Wheeler made it 5-0, Hawks replying via a penalty corner.
