Stefan Bailey, on his debut, and Simeon Wiliams were sent off as Banbury United slid to defeat at Cambridge City in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division on Saturday.
It was Banbury’s third defeat in a row.
The visitors never looked like scoring, with home keeper Zac Barrett not having a shot to save.
Early on, Banbury had a lucky escape when Williams handled, but Andy Kemp parried Joey Abb’s resulting spot-kick, but Lee Clift hit the rebound over.
However, minutes later, City went in front in spectacular style when Danny Kelly bent a fierce free-kick around the wall and inside a post.
Three minutes later, a corner from Joe Coleman was met at the near post by Bailey, but his glancing header just beat the far post.
In injury time, Cambridge doubled their lead when Kelly’s shot was saved by Kemp, but Kelly rammed home the loose ball.
Banbury improved after the break, but failed to trouble City’s rearguard.
Cambridge wrapped it up when Kelly slipped the ball past Kemp for his hat-trick.
Banbury went down to ten men when Bailey picked up a second yellow card.
Minutes later Williams did the same to complete a miserable day for Banbury.
Banbury Utd: Kemp, Williams, Kinch, Bailey, Hinchliffe, Hutchcox, Youngs (Polk 78), Coleman, Green (Herbert 46), Woodley, Kingston (Edmond 70). Subs not used: Fuller.
Attendance: 310.
