Francis Vines resigned as boss of Didcot Town after a 5-2 thrashing by Poole Town in Division 1 South & West on Saturday, writes NICK FARRANT.
Vines, 49, only took the helm three months ago after the resignation of Ady Williams.
But he said he felt he had no option but to go having won two games in his 12 matches in charge.
“I am very disappointed that I couldn’t deliver for them,” said Vines.
“But I don’t think I could bring the right sort of quality player to the club quickly enough.
“I have good contacts in the game, but the players are often playing at a level above and couldn’t come here for what we were offering.
“It was difficult when I came in because we had only two players.
“I think if five or six had stayed from the end of last season, there would have been something to build a team around.
“But you can’t keep getting beaten four or five each week and hope everything works out.
“We have played well in some games – we drew at Oxford City 1-1 in the cup – and the next game the players seemed to forget what we told them. We haven’t been consistent enough.
“To get beaten 5-2 is very disheartening for me and the players.”
Vines added: “I’m not sure what I’m going to do next, because I’ve been involved in football since I started playing at nine-years-old.
“I just think they need another person to take this club on, but it’s going to be difficult as they have risen very quickly since they won the FA Vase.”
Didcot said they hoped to appoint a boss in the next few days.
