Ardley United got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory at ten-man Highworth in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division on Saturday.
It followed was the perfect antidote to their 5-0 midweek thrashing atgainst Flackwell Heath.
Minutes before the break, Ben Snook saw red for a bad challenge on Ardley midfielder Nick Thorne.
And Ardley took full advantage after the break, with Adam Garner’s powerful header kept out by Kurtis Sharke in the Highworth goal.
But he was left helpless on 68 minutes, when Ardley went ahead.
Thorne had his heels clipped in the area, with Ryan Brooks firing home the resulting penalty.
Victory was sealed when sub Jason Castello’s pass found Troy Bryan who rounded two defenders before coolly lobbing the advancing keeper.
Wantage Town went down to a 4-1 drubbing at Binfield.
The visitors never recovered from a shocking start, conceding three goals in the first 20 minutes.
Danny Wing opened the scoring before further goals from Ian Davies and James Suarez left Wantage reeling.
After the break, Graham Edney hit back with a tremendous drive past Dan Weatt in the Binfield goal.
However, Carl Davies made it 4-1 to kill off Wantage’s hopes.
An injury-ravaged Headington Amateurs crashed 4-0 at Wootton Bassett Town in Division 1 West.
It wasn’t until the 67th minute that Ritchie Carter put the hosts in front.
More goals from Sam Packer, Russell driver and James Turner compounded Headington’s misery.
In Division 1 East, Letcombe slid to a 4-1 defeat at ten-man Chalfont Wasps.
Hesitancy in the Letcombe backline saw Simon Williams fire Chalfont ahead.
Mark Holt then doubled their lead after Letcombe failed to clear their lines.
Just before the break, Chalfont went down to ten men when Ryan Martindale was sent off for a second booking.
Ryan Swales made it 3-0, before Paul Jezzard pulled one back after Pete Horswell’s shot was parried. Michael Wilson sealed the rout late on.
Ben Morris shelped himself to a hat-trick for Oxford City Nomads as they thrashed Cirencester Town Development 6-2 in the first round of the Bluefin Challenge Cup.
Adam Morris, Pablo Haysham and Jermaine Ferreira were their other marksmen, with James Hayward and Mark Ford replying.
