OXFORDSHIRE’S Peter Barnshaw and Rosie Kingston found it tough going in the English Schools’ Combined Events Championships’ national final at Exeter Arena.
Barnshaw, of Abingdon School, finished 19th in the senior boys’ decathlon with 4,996 points as South Yorskhire’s Liam Ramsay struck gold with 7,308.
Barnshaw was heading for a top-ten finish, before failing to post a clearance in the seventh event, the pole vault.
Kingston, of Abingdon & Witney College, recorded five personal bests as she came 24th in the senior girls’ heptathlon with 2,817 points.
Gold went to Warwickshire’s Imogen Green with 4,479.
Kingston recorded personal bests in the 100m hurdles, shot, 200m, javelin and 800m.
Meanwhile, Oxon’s Katerina Johnson finished second in the senior girls’ walk in 32mins 19.77secs, behind lone opponent, Emily Symmons, of Kent, in 29.04.99.
