Exeter Falcons 35, Oxford Rebels 32, Swindon Robins 20
OXFORD Rebels just missed out on victory in the Bob Kilby Memorial meeting at the Abbey Stadium in Swindon last night, writes ROB PEASLEY.
But they were comfortable in second place behind Exeter Falcons, with Swindon finishing a long way back in last place.
The meeting was arranged in memory of former Oxford skipper Bob Kilby, who died in 2009, aged 64.
Kilby rode for the three clubs in a successful career between 1964 and 1983.
The Rebels were one point in front going into the final race of the night, but the previously undefeated Scott Nichols could only trail in third.
Rory Schlein won the race to clinch the meeting for Exeter.
Charlie Gjedde was in fine form for Oxford, scoring 11 points out of a possible 12.
Niels-Kristian Iversen was forced to pull out of the meeting due to a commitment in Poland, but Nicholls made for a fine replacement with 14 points.
The highlight of the evening from an Oxford perspective came from Gjedde and David Howe.
The pair scored an impressive 5-1 in heat ten over Swindon’s No 1 Simon Stead.
Oxford scorers: Nicholls 14pts, Gjedde 11, Howe 4+1, Tomicek 3.
