OXFORDSHIRE’S Mark Charlett is the Home Counties Bowling Association singles champion.
And to complete a great double for his club, Headington also won the fours crown on an eventful finals day at Oxford City & County BC.
Charlett beat Buckinghamshire’s John McGuinness (Gerrards Cross) 21-14 in the final, having seen off Simon Jee (Middlesex) 21-16 in the last four and Kent’s Stephen Johnson 21-1 in the quarter-finals.
The quartet of Dean May, Steve Hainge, Nathan Lewis and Howard Watts then produced some great bowls to win the fours title.
They beat the Kent team of Andrew Boatwright, Ronald Lloyd, Michael Aldridge and Robert Shields (Horton Kirby) 23-14 to claim the crown.
Berkshire’s David Hancock, of Didcot BC, completed a good day for local bowlers by claiming the under 25 singles title courtesy of a narrow 21-19 victory over Middlesex’s Nick Edwards (Bounds Green).
The Oxfordshire Champion of Champions takes place this Saturday and Sunday at Oxford City & County BC.
