OXFORD University’s David Bruce stormed to victory in a new course record at the Woodstock 12 road race, held in the grounds of Blenheim Park.
Bruce, 26, running for first claim club Highgate Harriers, crossed the line after three undulating circuits in 1hr 6mins 35secs – breaking the previous record of 1.09.03 which was set in 2007, by nearly two and a half minutes.
Oxford City veteran Steve Male finished second and first in the vet 40 category, clocking 1.07.21, while Paul Fernandez (Abingdon) was third in 1.07.49.
Nigel Marley, representing Coventry Godiva, was fourth in 1.08.48, with Woodstock Harrier James Bolton crossing the line fifth in 1.10.04.
The men’s team race turned into a battle royal between Oxford City and Woodstock Harriers.
City took the honours through Male, Julian Richardson (sixth in 1.12.14) and Aaron Burgess (seventh in 1.12.34).
Woodstock’s first three home were Bolton, Dave Cantwell (eighth in 1.13.18) and Brian O’Connor (ninth in 1.13.23).
The women’s race was won by Bourton Roadrunner and former Scottish international Shona Crombie-Hicks.
Crombie-Hicks also recorded a course record, clocking 1.17.47.
Woodstock’s Jess Webb was second overall, winning the senior ladies’ section in 1.19.30.
Liz Grolimund was third in 1.22.42 to help Alchester to the team prize.
