OXFORD City Veterans have received a brand new kit – as a thank-you for raising money for Steve Tavinor, whose leg was crushed by a car.
A benefit match took place last year between City Veterans and Oxford United Legends for the former Witney Town captain and Oxford United and City defender.
And now KMC Scaffolding, the company Tavinor used to work for, have bought City Veterans a new strip.
City lined up in their new kit as they began their title defence in the Hellenic League Veterans Premier Division with a convincing 4-1 home win against Wantage Town.
Tavinor watched as all the goals came in the first half.
Wantage took the lead after 15 minutes, but City bounced back with a Shaun Pearce hat-trick, and a debutant goal for new signing Fraser Gills.
Tavinor was unloading scaffolding from a lorry in Steeple Aston in September 2009, when a Jaguar car collided with him, leaving him with serious injuries to his left leg.
Surgeons were able to save the limb, and he is continuing his rehabiliation.
But he still cannot work, and will never play football again.
