GARETH Campbell’s late try ensured an injury-hit Witney made it three wins from three with a 22-16 victory over Bletchley at Hailey Road.
A tense finale saw Witney leading just 17-16 before the lively scrum half pounced on the stroke of full time.
Bletchley conceded ten penalties in the first 25 minutes, but it was they who took the lead with a three-pointer from their fly half.
Witney hit back, with a classic backs move producing the opening try for centre Carl Strutt, converted by full back Ed Mitcham.
Had Campbell been able to catch the ball cleanly, he may well have scored an interception try, but a second Bletchley penalty made it 7-6 at the break.
Witney No 8 Marc Copperwheat was sin-binned on 43 minutes, with Bletchley kicking the resulting penalty, but they soon had their tight-head prop in the sin bin.
A Mitcham penalty restored the hosts’ lead before he and Strutt helped send wing Lewis Collins over in the corner.
Mitcham converted for 17-9, but back came Bletchley and their pressure eventually told with a converted try on 65 minutes.
Witney fly half Henry Lamb went close with a penalty from his own half, but the tension continued until Campbell struck.
