Leighton Tn 4
(Hassan 27, Gallant 29, 46, Copson 59)
Abingdon Utd 1
(Evans 90)
Abingdon United’s hopes of a money-spinning FA Cup run were dashed as they crashed out in the first qualifying round at Leighton Town.
The Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West visitors started brightly, and Matthew Biddle burst through only for his lob to land on the top of the net.
With their first attack, Leighton, of Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1, broke down the left flank with pace and Bilal Hassan headed home at the far post in the 27th minute.
Within two minutes the hosts were awarded a harsh penalty for handball, which Ben Gallant hammered home.
Abingdon switched to a three-man defence in the second half to look for a way back, but fell further behind when Gallant raced through to net.
Leighton added a fourth in the 59th minute when Jack Copson scored direct from a corner.
Carl Evans headed home a Steve Davis cross in the 90th minute, but it was scant consolation.
