Banbury Utd 1

(Williams 36)

Slough Tn 3

(Sonner 44, Sinclair 53, Abbey 89)

Banbury United’s FA Cup hoodoo struck again as they made another swift exit with a shock defeat by Slough in the first qualifying round at Spencer Stadium.

The Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division hosts almost scored after 20 seconds when Ryan Howell forced a fingertip save out of James Warrington.

Slough, of Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 Central, then had a good chance when Steve Sinclair shot wide with just Andy Kemp to beat.

But Banbury took a deser-ved lead in the 36th minute.

Walker crossed from the left for Simeon Williams to fire into the corner of the net.

However, Slough equalised in the 44th minute when a cross from the right found Sean Sonner five yards, and his glancing header from close in gave Kemp no chance.

Banbury had a golden chance to regain the lead when Howell, with only Warrington to beat, put the ball over the bar.

Slough took the lead in the 53rd minute when Sinclair walked through a static defence and beat the stranded Kemp with ease.

The visitors were awarded a bizarre penalty in the 65th minute – apparently for a foul by Williams – but Dave Burnell’s spot-kick hit the outside of a post.

However, Banbury’s fate was sealed in the 89th minute when substitute Ben Abbey, the former Oxford United striker, waltzed through the defence to shoot past Kemp.
