Match fishing
WITH just one more match remaining in the 2011 Carp League, it is still all to play for, with three anglers separated by only a handful of points.
Andy Benwell leads on 34 points, ahead of Gary Knight (39.5) and Rob Guppy (55).
Matt Ryman (Predator) landed victory in the latest round at Tunnel Barn Farm on the Warwickshire club pool.
Fishing paste over pellet down the edge, Ryman caught 122lb 6oz.
Second, fishing maggot shallow at three metres was Steve Johnson (Acorn Angling) with 120lb 6oz. Ivan Graham (J&K) was third with 100lb 12oz caught on paste.
Out of the 15 anglers, the lowest weight was still over 50 pounds.
The final match is at Rissington tomorrow.
Oxford Bus AC had a match against Kennington AC on their own waters.
Fresh from grabbing the headlines last week, Pete Clarke continued his excellent form with another victory.
He landed a superb netful of roach for 12.10.00 using waggler tactics and varying the bait.
In second spot was Anthony Tompkins with a mixed net of perch and bleak for a weight of 5.10.00.
The overall result was a win for Oxford Bus with a combined catch of 22.03.00.
The club’s next match is on their School Waters tomorrow.
The 11 anglers in the Kidlington AS match had a decent day on Folly Bridge.
Winner was Henry Clarke with 10lb 10oz of perch and roach.
In second place was Dave Britnell, who put 9lb 7oz of perch on the scales, while third was Dougie Foreshaw, who weighed in 9lb 2oz of perch and skimmers.
Sutton Courtenay AC fished their individual match at Pimlico Farm, and the strong and blustery wind made the competition quite tough for the feeder and pole.
But one man did very well as Malcolm Vigor posted a comprehensive victory.
Malcolm took 26lb 15oz of roach for first place.
Mark Shepherd was second in 16lb 5oz of carp and roach, while Bill Vigor finished third, his single carp going 11lb 10oz.
There were also a couple of other decent carp caught.
