JUDY McCairns edged out Dee Chapelle to win Oxford Ladies’ club championship at Southfield for the sixth time.
McCairns, 65, defied wet and windy conditions, to produce a two-round total of 162 to win by two shots from Chapelle.
The duo were neck and neck after shooting first-round 80s, but McCairns (pictured left) carded an 82 to land the title as Chapelle finished adrift with an 84.
A past English Seniors Division B champion, McCairns won her first Oxford club championship in 1997.
Chapelle had the consolation of winning the Handicap Plate, pipping McCairns on countback.
- ERIC King landed The Springs’ club championship at the age of 62 after defeating Gary Wilkinson in a play-off.
King was a shot behind Wilkinson going into the third and final play-off hole, the 18th, but a par four was enough for victory after his opponent carded a six.
Wilkinson found a bunker with his eight-iron approach, took two attempts to escape then two-putted.
King kept his nerve to leave his 15-foot putt inches short for an easy tap-in and the title.
Natalie James retained her ladies’ club championship, finishing two shots clear of Pauline Allen.
- NORTH Oxford duo Sally Stewart and Carol Southgate finished fifth in the PING Fourball Betterball Tournament of England at Gainsborough.
The pair carded 38 points, just two behind winners Laura Harrison and Abbie Spence (Hobson).
- KATHERINE O’Connor (Tadmarton Heath) won two out of four matches to help Wales to second place in the Ladies’ Home Internationals at Hillside, near Southport.
