Chris Wilder was full of praise for 17-year-old Robert Hall after the loanee got Oxford United back to winning ways at Dagenham & Redbridge last night.

The West Ham striker capped a fine performance with a 41st-minute strike as the U’s recorded a valuable three points with a 1-0 win in npower League Two.

And boss Wilder said that Hall’s display – on his Football League debut – was a great sign of things to come.

“I thought that Robbie was superb tonight,” Wilder said.

“This is probably the toughest place you could come to make your league debut and he handled it great.

“It understandably took him a while to get into the game, but when he did he showed some superb touches.

“In the second half especially he was a real danger and looked ever so lively.”

Wilder added that the performance dispelled some fears that the U’s can’t grind out victories.

“I thought we again played some great stuff,” he said.

“We missed a few chances again, but apparently according to some people we can’t mix it up, and we did that tonight.

“Our displays have warranted more, but we have got the win tonight and that was the main thing.

“Alfie Potter was a constant threat, and it was unfortunate he couldn’t cap it with a goal.

“But then Ryan Clarke has had to make two great saves late on to get the win – and that’s what it’s all about, a real team performance.”
