Captain Jake Wright has called on Oxford United to produce a complete performance at Dagenham & Redbridge tonight.
The U’s have picked up just two points from their last three matches, but have produced some great football, especially in Saturday’s draw with Burton Albion where they let slip a two-goal lead to draw 2-2.
But Wright says that the time has come for the players to cut out mistakes, and make sure that they go on a winning run – starting tonight.
“Once we got a 2-0 lead, as defenders we should be able to shut them out and make sure we win the game, so it was very frustrating for everyone,” Wright said.
“We possibly should have been more ahead, but there are loads of positives to take out of the game because we did play some really good stuff – especially in the first half, which was the best we’ve played all season.
“We looked like scoring when we attacked and were solid at the back, but let it slip in the second half.”
United have racked up 39 attempts on goal in the last two matches, scoring just three goals.
And by the same token have had just 14 attempts against them, but have let in five.
“If we are winning 4-3 I’m not bothered about conceding goals,” Wright said.
“You want to keep as many clean sheets as you can, but the crucial thing is winning games.
“In the last couple of matches we have been on top and have let the goals in which is obviously something we have to put right.
“Dagenham have got a good squad, got beaten on Saturday and so will be desperate to put that right with a win against us, so we know it will be very tough.”
Midfielder Simon Heslop says that the United squad can’t wait to play again so quickly.
“It always helps having a midweek game when you have had a disappointing result,” he said.
“It gives us a great opportunity to get Saturday’s result out of our system.”
