Oxford Sailing Club water sports instructor Dan Simpson (pictured) struck gold at the Royal Yachting Association Youth and Masters British Windsurfing Championships.
The weekend of high-octane racing was conducted in very strong winds of up to 55mph at Portland Harbour, near Weymouth, the 2012 Olympic venue.
These extreme conditions suited Simpson, from Middleton Stoney, near Bicester, well.
And the 16-year-old stayed out on the water practising long after racing was abandoned each day.
Simpson completed his GCSE's at Marlborough School, Woodstock, and qualified as a windsurfing instructor, dinghy instructor, powerboat user and first aider in his spare time at the RYA training centre at Farmoor Reservoir and at Bewl Water in Kent.
Twice world windsurfing runner-up, Simpson learned to sail at Farmoor.
