Struggling Didcot claimed a morale-boosting 1-0 victory at Bishops Cleeve victory courtesy of a Danny Seaward strike and some fine saves by keeper David Lyons.
It was not only the first win of their Evo-Stik Division 1 South & West campaign, it was their first away from home on a Saturday forn 12 months.
The strong gale blowing up Bishops Cleeve’s Kayte Lane pitch was always likely to ruin the match as a spectacle.
But Didcot showed all the determination and hard-work needed to grind out a result.
With the elements in their favour in the first half, Didcot failed to test Cleeve keeper James Nortei enough Only a Kevin Halliday free-kick, and a Seaward shot, threatened to trouble him in a poor first half.
But the visitors took the lead two minutes after the break.
Phil John’s cross was turned home by Seaward – his first goal for Didcot and no less than the ex-Reading Town striker deserved.
From that moment, the game was dominated by Cleeve, who found Lyons in fine form.
Steve Jones could not believe it when Lyons tipped over a 75th minute header.
James Vercesi was another Cleeve player, who was left with his head in his hands when Lyons was forced into another brilliant save as Didcot held on.
